Commuting Patterns - American Community Survey (ACS) 2006 - 2010
These statewide and county commuting patterns fact sheets are based on Journey to Work, a compilation of data from the U.S. Census Bureau describing the flow of workers traveling from home to work.

Counties

A closer look at the County-to-County Commuting Flows (New Hampshire Economic Condtions, May 2013)

Please note (effective September 2015): The U.S Office of Management and Budget (OMB) updated statistical area delineations using total population estimates from the 2010 U.S. Decennial Census supplemented with commuting pattern data from the American Community Survey. This updated delineation of areas replaces those established based on the 2000 Decennial Census, which have been in use since 2003.

These labor market area commuting patterns fact sheets were prepared using the updated statistical area delineations.

Labor Market Areas

2000 and 1990 Decennial Census commuting data
Please note that the survey methodology differs from the 2006-2010 commuting data (ACS 5-year estimate versus Decennial Census long-form questionnaire).

1990 and 2000 Commuting Patterns by County
The 1990 and 2000 Commuting Patterns data were compiled from the long-form questionnaire in the decennial Census. The American Community Survey (ACS) has replaced the Census long-form questionnaire and is now the source for data on Journey to work and commuting flows.

1990 Commuting Patterns
The 1990 commuting pattern data were compiled from the long-form questionnaire in the decennial Census. The American Community Survey (ACS) has replaced the Census long-form questionnaire and is now the source for data on Journey to work and commuting flows.

Since the 1990 commuting data were compiled, Labor Market Area (LMA) and Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA) designations were changed. Current labor market areas are based on the 2000 Census commuting patterns.
