Meet the Commissioner
George N. Copadis has been serving as Commissioner of New Hampshire Employment Security since July 16, 2012. Prior to joining the department, Commissioner Copadis had served as the Commissioner of Labor from 2004 through July 15, 2012.
Commissioner Copadis is affiliated with several nonprofits and is currently serving his 18th year as President of the Board of Directors at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He has served on the board for 39 years. He served 33 years as a member of the Board of Commissioners on the Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority and served as chair for many of those years. Commissioner Copadis has also served as a board member of New Horizons and currently serves as Chair of the Amethyst Foundation Board of Directors.
From 2007 to 2015, Commissioner Copadis served as Chair of the State Employees United Way Campaign. Commissioner Copadis previously served on the United Way Management Team for the yearly State Employees Charitable Campaign. On October 21, 2014, Commissioner Copadis was honored for his philanthropy and commitment to the State of New Hampshire State Employees United Way Campaign and was awarded the United Way Rumford Leadership Award. Commissioner Copadis was recognized for his volunteer efforts with the Laity Award for outstanding service on behalf of the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester, NH in 2000. In 2003, he received the Spirit of Manchester Award from the Board of Mayor and Alderman for outstanding community service. He has served in different capacities within the workforce system since 1994.
The Commissioner is a lifelong resident of Manchester, New Hampshire and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
